A wonderful vintage copy of the classic Singer Sewing Book by Mary Brooks Picken, published by the Singer Sewing Machine Company in 1951.

Mary Brooks Picken was one of the most influential American authorities on sewing and dressmaking during the first half of the twentieth century. Her clear, practical approach made her books valuable both to beginning sewists and to those with more advanced sewing experience.

The Singer Sewing Book is an extensive reference covering a wide range of sewing techniques and the practical use of a sewing machine. The book includes instruction on working with patterns, constructing seams, setting sleeves, adding pockets, fitting and altering patterns, sewing clothing for children, decorative stitching, and numerous other sewing techniques. It is richly illustrated with instructional drawings and color photographs that make the techniques especially interesting to study today.

Beyond its practical value, this is a wonderful glimpse into mid-century American home sewing and the way sewing was taught during the era. It would make a great addition to a collection of vintage sewing manuals, Singer memorabilia, textile and fashion history books, or mid-century domestic arts references.

Published by Singer Sewing Machine Company. 244 pages, 8 x 11 inches. Great vintage condition. There are only minor signs of age along the edges and corners of the cover.
