A scarce and especially attractive 1926 first edition of Historic Churches of the World, Illustrated,by Robert B. Ludy, published by The Stratford Company in Boston. This copy is signed by the author and retains both its dust jacket and original cardboard slipcase.
Ludy’s book is a survey of historic churches in Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, looking at the buildings themselves as well as the history and traditions associated with them. The photographs are a major part of the book, giving the reader a chance to see the exteriors, interiors, architectural details, and settings of churches from the Old and New Worlds. Among the illustrations is a color frontispiece of Christ Church in Philadelphia, followed by numerous black-and-white and sepia photographs. The volume also includes a bibliography and index.
This book contains 325 pages and measures 6.75” x 9.75”. It has a particularly distinctive purple binding with gilt lettering—an unusual color for a book of this period and one that makes it stand out on the shelf. The book is in excellent, like-new condition, with a clean, remarkably well-preserved interior and binding. The dust jacket is present, as is the original cardboard slipcase. The slipcase has some wear from age and handling, but the book has been exceptionally well cared for.
